I am not sure what passes for psychic in animals. I have a young service dog named Mali. I got her when she was 11 weeks old. I had a trainer come to my home to help with her training through advanced obedience and hand signs, since then I have done the rest of her training and Mali has passed all the rest of her tests with 100%. At this time, Mali is only 15 months old.
Mali had only had her harness for a couple of months. We were very proud of her, as she had passed the adult temperament test…

Every night Steve and I take Mali to the green way. The green way is a 17 mile walking park. In between the trails we walk and the return course there is a large field and today there were tractors racking and bailing hay. Mali loves going to go to the green way. She has many friends there, who often walk with us in a pack as we travel our three mile route. One day when Mali was 7 months old no one from the pack was on the Green Way with us, it was just Mali, Steve and I in my wheel chair; as we…

Last month, Mali and I were stopped in traffic. I had all the windows rolled down as it was not very hot out and there was a nice breeze. Mali was enjoying flirting with the people in the car next to us when she heard the sirens of a fire truck. The expression on her face was pricele…

I know I am dating myself when I mention the Brady bunch but heck I am old and I do not care who knows it. When people ask me to describe the fun personalities of my girls I tell them we live with the Brady girls Marsha, Jan and Cindy aka Mali, Rani and Yuki.
Mali is very much like Marsha. First of all she is the eldest. Mali is very confident and well liked by everyone who meets her. She always carries herself with her head held high, walks with, and air of dominance. She is control of herse…

I do not often show Mali as she has a white face and that is a point off the moment she steps into the ring for our breed standard. However this last weekend the Judge was Fred Lanting "Mr. GSD" I just could not pass up a chance to hear what he had to say about my girl past her face. He gives detailed description…

My family and I have been displaced from our home as we had a large amount of water damage which caused mold. We have lived for a few weeks in a hotel. This past week we took all three of our girls to Northern NY to a dog show as Rani was competing, and my husband and I had a few seminars to take. Rani was also going to take her adult temperament test at this time.
At one point my husband had Rani with him and I was off where I could still be seen by them but out of ear shot. I was not in my wh…

Summer started off wonderful. I was excited about my garden. I had a plan to make it the best garden so far here in NC. The first year I just stuck the bulbs i had rescued from NH here into the ground and hoped they would survive the middle of the season move. the next year I battled the voles and lost all my bulbs. This year It was going to be different.
It rained and Rained and rained some more and I got a late start, but i did not let that get me down. After all last year was a drought and I…

I had been thinking about training Rani to be an alternate for Mali as a mobility service dog, so since she was a young pup I had take extra time to socialize her more than most people would socialize their dog. She is not afraid of loud noises or strange sounds, large trucks, motorcycles whizzing close by, large crowds of people, horns blaring, the rattling of dollies or any other strange sound most dogs to not hear on a daily basis.
Rani is sweet and soft natured when she meets someone new sh…

Twelve days have passed since the storm rumbled through and Ginger entered our lives soaked to the skin, wounded, and bleeding. The vet did the blood work making sure the kitten did not have feline leukemia or aids so it could stay with us and not put our other elderly kitties in jeopardy. Ginger snuggled in quite nicely in the cat carrier in my mediation room. We put a baby gat on the door so the other cats could jump in if they wanted to visit but the kitten could not get out, thus keeping it…

Last week, after a terrible thunderstorm ended we heard the sounds of a distressed cry. It was nearly midnight and Steve and I had not yet gone to bed as we were enjoying the cool calm the storm had brought when it left. The sounds was nearly lost in the sounds of the frogs melody down by the creek but it was there, high pitched and frantic. I heard it first and asked Steve to shush so I could be sure. Then he heard it too. It was the sound of a very young kitten.
Steve searched the kitchen for…

I had wanted to have another dog for many years. I wanted a dog which would be loyal, easy to train, intelligent, a watch dog not a guard dog, impressive in mind and body. One day I stumbled across a picture of a Shiloh Shepherd. I could not stop looking at the picture. It featured a group of shepherds who were eye popping to look at. Some of them were short haired or what I later learned is called smooth coated, and some of them were long haired, or plush if you will.
The plush Shepherds look…

Description or definition:
DEADLIEST OF EMERGENCIES: BLOAT KILLS WITH HORRIFYING SPEED
Your Dog’s LIFE could be at stake. Be informed. Recognize and act FAST !!!
Bloat is a condition in which there is a rapid accumulation of air in the stomach causing dilatation.(abnormal swelling). Volvulus, or torsion occurs next when the dilated stomach twists, cutting off contact with the esophagus at one end and the small intestine at the other, trapping the air. This very enlarged twisted stomach puts pre…

Bloat is a very serious health risk for many dogs, yet many dog owners know very little about it. It is the second leading killer of dogs, after cancer. Especially in large and giant bread dogs such as German Shepherds, Great Danes, and Dobermans and many deep-chested dogs as well.
Avoid highly stressful situations. If you can't avoid them, try to minimize the stress as much as possible. Be extra watchful.
Can be brought on by dog shows, mating, whelping, boarding, new dog in household, chang…

This is a subject NEAR AND DEAR to all responsible dog breeders. To begin, with breeding IS NOT for everyone. Just because you have a dog does Not mean it Should be bred and MOST should NOT be bred; especially with our GIANT breeds. (I breed giants)
There are many aspects of breeding dogs, the average person does not know. Learning takes years of studying to become a GREAT breeder and it takes a GREAT mentor to help facilitate this process. Knowing exactly what you are doing is not trial and er…
