- Married Francis in 1999, we lived in Trinidad (West Indies) where I saw first-hand the need for animal care and welfare education; the Trinis are working to improve animal care with education/outreach;
America has regions not so dissimilar to developing countries, for instance, Alaska village animals have vastly different health care than urban animals; dependable veterinary care is limited or non-existent;
Living in Trinidad gave me insight to some origins of the pet trade; as in all communities, there are affluent sections and poorer sections where animal conditions reflect that dichotomy;
Interest in wildlife medicine/habitat preservation (displacement of Hawksbills, Green, Leatherback, Loggerhead, Olive Ridley turtles due to coastal development around Trinidad and Tobago);
Since witnessing Scarlet Macaws in wild flocks in natural habitat in the Caribbean, it's now difficult for me to cage wild/exotic birds long term (exceptions: birds in a rehab environment or confirmed unreleasable) even though I've cared for/treated caged exotic pet birds myself;
Excellent website -- http://www.in-memory-of-pets.com/ -- it helped ME heal after my husband (Francis) and I said goodbye to our dogs (Aubrey Hoyt, 16 and Sir Smiles Alot aka Smiley, 8);
Working knowledge in disaster preparedness/animal rescue (team member for UAN/EARS, soon VMAT/NRVT5);
Interest in documentary filmmaking;

It's been a while since we've chatted. I hope this finds you doing well. Please do let us know if we can do anything different or improve the site for you in some way. We value all of our members and hate to see when folks don't visit us anymore so please know that you are important and that we're listening.
Been a while since I left an update on everyone's page, so I thought I would take some time and share what's been happening on PLP.
We have a really unique contest that I am hoping that people join in on. It's really not so much a contest as it is a way for us to create a calendar to share all of our pet pictures. Check it out by going here.
Ning has added a lot of new features, and some things they have taken away. Let's get to the fun part first! We can now add "system wide" apps that everyone can use. I'm still trying to figure out what would be fun, but, one thing I did add is a games page. The games page can be found under the Community menu and it's the last option -- or, just click HERE. If anyone has used the apps before, and has a recommendation, just let me know.
One of the things that was removed was our ability to invite other Ning friends to our community. If you are a member of other pet sites and want to invite your friends here, just log on to www.ning.com. You will see all of the sites that you belong to by clicking on "Social Networks".
Once you are on the page where PLP displays, select "Recommend" and you can then recommend PLP to your friends from other Ning sites or to our little home. We really appreciate it when you invite other folks to join our community. We only grow by word of mouth and appreciate the support.

The fires you are seeing on T.V are about 6 hours away from us. Its horrible what has happened and the police think the fires were deliberately lit. We have what we call the R.S.P.C.A in Australia. Royal society for the prevention of cruelty to animals. So anything to do with care, support, rescue, rehoming of animals goes through them. We also have many wildlife rescue centres, where people volunteer to look after lost or injured animals in their own homes, until they can be either released into the wild again or new homes are found for them. Listening to all the news reports there are many vets, vet nurses volunteering in and around the area to help lost and injured animals and wildlife.
