- I simply loved finding this site. The picture is from my Talley, an American Alaskan Huskie mix. She's a Georgia gal. I had just lost my darling Tode a Schnauzer to cancer, I was devatated and went for a ride. It was 97 degrees and there was pet adoption program. In my life ..perhaps a reflection of my pain. I placed her on mom's lap and she said What are we going to caller? She was petrified. She was around 4 months old. If a feather moved she'd shake. It took over a year to haver her most of her fears. I told her that day "I don't have my baby and you don't have a mom, I don't love you, don't know if and when I will but you are coming home." It was the best decision. I cried for months, but she certainly filled a void. She is the most lovable, tender and sweet pet, she still "skiddish" but she soon warms up to people. We sleep together, when I'm working she is under my desk. I cook for her everyday. She does not like the car much, so I don't force her to go out. She went to school. She's very sociable with other pets. I love her dearly.
Last year I picked up over 13 lost pets and found their owners. Other's I found homes for. Several months ago while on business showing a property,I found a Rotty mix that was literally a walking skeleton with a huge rope around his neck. Her stomach was flat, her bones sticking out. I gave her water, she threw it up, she could not hold anything in her stomach. Well, my friend was nursing and had frozen breast milk and we gave her that. It worked. Then Gatoraid, then bits of food so she would not throw it up...and little by little she has grown into a gorgeous pet. I love her dearly. When she was smaller, or thinner I should say, Talley and her would play, however she has doubled her weight. Talley is about 34 lbs and she is around 60+ and Talley is afraid of her 'I will add. I am recuperating from back surgery and Missy is too strong. I've tried training her but I'm not strong enough to restrain her. I'm trying to trying to find a home for her. Must have a teen son, a yard, someone who has had big dogs and loves to train them. I've touched based with a rescue but I will not, cannot bring her and leave her, I just can't. So, they have sent me guide lines for interviewing people and I will request a donation to their organization and they must sign a contract. I did not save her life to subject her to more pain. Hopefully the Lord will find that home for me. If not, I'll just have to deal with the situation. It is hard since I'm also a care giver. I also have a cat, that I picked up after a business meeting some years ago. My other 2 cats lived to 22 years.
I taught Missy to play dead and when I tell her "down" and don't giver a treat but just praise her...she'll play dead, like saying "now do I get my treat?" As I write tears flow, it is going to break my heart to give her up. But she deserves so much more. although I make sure she gets a share of game time, and love. Perhaps someone out there can help me with this.
I cook for them everyday, I bake their treats and tell them how much they mean to me, but love cannot be selfish. She needs more playtime, going for walks, etc. I can't I'm not strong enough physically.
I will never understand why the Good Lord made the life of dog's so short. There has to be a Pet Heaven, because they are creatures the Lord made .
I have been involved with animal rescue all my life and was vice president for the Humane Society at
one time.
I'd like to do a fund raising for this non profit - shelter they need help. Could use some ideas. Maybe we can even do a fund raisers for no kill shelters through your site. I have an idea that might work. That would be awesome because there are so many displaced animals with all the people loosing their homes.
