I bought max a boomer ball a couple of weeks ago and he loves it. It tires him out so he doesn't destory things in the backyard.

Update on max....
A friend at work gave me a halti to calm max down and it worked as soon as I found out how it went on him he did jerk his head a few times but he found out he couldn't get out of it nor run from me while the Halti is on. He minds me better and stays right beside me when walking. I also can controll him from barking at other dogs like a PetSmart or Petco now. I am so happy. I got snow pic of him playing in the snow for the first time of his life..

Yeah for Max!!!! He finally got in his doghouse last night! I'm so proud of him. I guess he didn't like the doghouse we bought him but the neighbors had moved and said I could have their huge doghouse so I got it and max loves it. I guess he was trying to tell us he didn't like the newer one we bought him. I did what you said, put treat in back of doghouse and he would go in and come back out. I would repeat this excerise 10 times a day when I'm out in the yard with him. It got cold last night and I put his favorite blankey in it and left him. When it was time for the doxies to go outside before bedtime I shined a flashlight to see if he was in his doghouse and sure enough he was!!!! Go Max! Thanks Wendt. Now I'm working on the recall for him. He will come to me but when I try to touch his collar he will run away and he thinks he's playing with me. I try to give him treats while touching him or when he comes up to me I will give him a treat, but when I try to reach for his collar he will bolt out of fear I think.

Chester is a perfect companion till he sees something going on outside, like another dog or kids or someone walking. He goes crazy. He totally tunes me out and is deep into hes frenzy. The same wnen I put him out side on his 50' lead so he can do his business. He acts like he could kill anyone that comes close but his tail is wagging . I[ve had kids stop and pet him and he's fine with that, but I cant calm him down when he gets that way Anu suggestions

No muzzle..no spiked collars...straight choker and it can be a smaller linked one to add more pressure to it. You can start off by callling his name before changing direction but in the end you just do it. He has to learn to pay attention and not drift off and stay on your leg. You should be able to walk through a crowd w/o monitoring him..he is to monitor YOU. When dogs approach that is them not him...he is to sit quietly and stay seated. Control your dog ...then it won't add to a heightened situation if the others are out of control. If your working w/him and someone approaches to want to pet your pooch..make him sit and get collected..until then they are not to approach. Tell them to wait til you get him under controlled..if they don't listen..tell them again and explain. Sometimes this is hard but its for the good of your dog..no rules to be broken since this will only confuse him and make it okay. Most will understand and if they don't..so be it. As far as poop eating..they normally grow out of it. Get after him for it and be more prompt on picking it up. For the paws on the Doxies..that would be a tough one..maybe the Doxie will get fed up w/it and then he'll learn but again..get after him. Make him mind.

NILF is a certain way of training. It means..nothing in life is free. I use this method alot and it does work. Here is a link.

When I change directions do I call his name out then turn or just turn and walk the other direction? Should I muzzel him when walking for my comfort?

Hey Thanks for teaching me I'm trying to train Max. Got another one to ask. How can I teach Max not to put his paws on the backs of our doxies? When they go outside to potty he chases them he will not let them use it. I've tried putting a leash on him when they go outside and I tell Max leave it!
I am so proud of Max I did take him to the dog park and he finallly got to walk with three other dogs in a pack. When they walk faster he would try his best to catch up with them. When we met another dog walker with his two black labs he started to grawl but I turned his attention to the others who were leaving us, then he walk away with me. I gotta ask what is NILF? Well I'm taking him back to the park later this week when it gets warmer again. Thanks for listening to me ramble on.

Misty...when your dog sees another dog..stop and stand and don't move til you get him to settle and sit there. Sometimes alot of stored up energy is like working w/a kid on a candy and coke fix...you speak but they can't hear you or control themselves and the training session becomes negative. You have to use positive reinforcement and discipline. Before walking or doing some obedience let him run and play and get some of the energy burned down..as your playing w/him incorporate the Nilf methods..this will be rewarding, stimulating and fun w/o rigorous obedience to get him bored and non communicative w/you. This is not much different then working w/toddlers.

Dalpat Sphynx...Just remember for every month is an hour of holding urination. Excitement, waking up, during play will be the flag areas of relieving themselves. I've had 8 week old pups really get the idea but they just aren't mature enough to hold urination. By 3 months you are well on your way. The time goes by fast and you will start to pick up their habits. Just thoroughly clean up any spots accidents happen at so you get rid of the scent and always still run them out even though the accident happened. Never scold..this is a natural behavior and will only confuse them. I love to crate train and find it to be the easiest method.
