Hi! I am fairly new! about all of 5 minutes. I guess you could say I am asking if anyone knows about the Italian Mastiff Courso breed? I have a lady I am waiting on to hear back from, if we will be put on the waiting list. We love the big breed dog. i have a Siberian husky, Jack Russell toy fox terrier mix,ad a Ming Ping Chihuahua mix. They are all rescues! I so badly want a large breed for my son. One he can go place with, ect. he is 14 years old and a big boy himself. He is dog swavy! I live in new hampshire and have only found one person who breeds them. We keep looking in the petfinder.org, for a mix. Found one , no answer yet! We have been searching to add to our family for over a year! any suggestions! I am also steering toward the beagle breed! i know 2 different ends of the doggy line! But we live in a large home and have 5 acres and a huge 24 by 24 kennel. Everyone gets along with everyone! Thanks for all your help.

Welcome Sherry! I do not know this breed....Try going to Northeastern rescue group(naming the breed!) I rescued a senior maltese for my mom (who also was a senior!) I jumped thru hoops to get this dog!(KUDOS to them!) They were hesitant, since my mom is a senior, and Holly's owner was a senior, and had died.(Holly was alone with her deceased owner for about a week!) She was in bad shape when found!I had to sign many agreements to get her!(of course, we daughters had already discussed what to do with Holly, if anything happened to our mom!) Meanwhile, my mom now lives with my sister on 10 acres of land. When my mom got Holly, she didn't even know how to walk on a leash, or how to do steps! She is MOST spoiled! She now does steps, walks on a leash, and LOVES the woods!Of course, my sister Cindy, will not part with her!(Holly LOVES her to death, as well as my mom!) I also have two Maltese.(young!) Holly finds them "annoying....they find her, to be pampered and spoiled!" LOLHolly has a GREAT life!I guess my dogs wish "to have a pink pillow to sleep on, in every room in the house!"(I think NOT!) Nancy

Sherry, I am sorry but I do not know about this breed. But, I do wish you luck and hope you find one. Please let us know when you do and tell us all about it. It sounds like you have a very nice place for all your human and fur children to live and be happy!

Sherry, I know what Mastiffs are like and they are lovely animals. Glad that your son can handle a big breed but it is most of people I know that are dog owners that large breeds need to be with their 'Daddys' from birth. I hope that you get what your son wants soon!
Hugs

Hi Sherry and welcome. I've neve heard of this particular type of mastiff, but I just looked at a picture and what a gorgeous, slobbery dog! I hope you find one for your son. I'm with you - the bigger the better. :)

Keep us posted and send pics when you find your new baby.

Hi Sherry,
I have dealt and read on this breed often. Mastiff's are very sweet dog as to any breed. With children I would be careful with any. Never leave them alone. The Cane Corso Italiano is the original Cane Corso breed. It originated in Italy. Its direct ancestor is the "Canis Pugnax" (the old Roman Molossian) of which he is the light version employed in the hunting of large wild animals and also as an "auxiliary warrior" in battles. For years he has been a precious companion of the Italic populations. Employed as property, cattle and personal guard dog and used for hunting purposes too. In the past this breed was common all over Italy as an ample iconography and historiography testify. In the recent past he has found a excellent preservation area in Southern Italy, especially in Puglia, Lucania and Sannio. His name derives from the Latin "Cohors" which means "Guardian", "Protector".
Very loyal, willing to please and quiet around the house. The Cane Corso is highly intelligent and very trainable. Active and even-minded, he is an unequalled watch and protection dog. The Cane Corso Italiano is great with children in the family. Docile and affectionate with the owner. They are protective yet gentle. The Cane Corso has a very stable temperament. It makes an excellent guard dog and watchdog. It will not wonder from the home. They stick close to their masters. If necessary he becomes a terrible and brave protector of people, house and property. The Cane Corso is not a fighting dog. They were bred as working dogs for hundreds of years. Therefore they will not go out "looking" for a fight, but on the other hand they will not back down from other dogs who try to dominate them. The Cane Corso requires an experienced owner who knows how to display a natural authority over the dog. It can be aggressive with strangers and other dogs if not socialized or if it sees itself above humans in the pecking order. It should be carefully socialized when it is a pup. It is highly recommended that these dogs become fully obedience trained. If a Cane Corso is fully trained, with an owner who is firm, confident and consistent, setting rules the dog must follow and placing clear limits to what he can and cannot do, along with providing the proper daily mental and physical exercise, the Cane Corso will be an amenable companion. Learn what makes the canine animal tick and treat his breed accordingly. Suspicious of strangers, but wonderful with the family. A well balanced Corso will put up with strangers if the owners are present. When raised correctly, the dog should be submissive to all members of the family. Corso ears were originally cropped to help them ward off wolves while protecting livestock. Their ears are much more sensitive than the rest of their bodies. Generally, they're practically impervious to pain otherwise, so many Corso owners are often disappointed to find that electrical "invisible fence" containment systems don't deter their dogs.

I am trying to upload pic.s to this site but having no luck! Also want to show you guys the deer who keep taunting my dogs every morning!,,,l.o.l.. So funny that a 10 lb and 4 1/2 lbs. thinks they can mess with 2 bucks,,,l.o.l
We have decided to keep our eyes oped for a large mastiff, stafford or pit mix, My son is 14 and 6ft. tall. he can handle the dogs and has been raised around all types sense he was a baby.
i actually just put my feelers back out! I decided to go back into rescue again! I have the summer off and plenty of time for training, tlc. I also refuse to fly a dog! to stressful, and they get neglected in cargo!
